Music Magazine - Q2: "How does your media product represent particular social groups?"

At the start of this project, I decided to use the rock genre as the theme for my music magazine. This was because I enjoy a lot of rock music and buy magazines like NME and KERRANG!, which therefore gave me an understanding and idea on what had to be included in them.

I started to research into the rock genre and found that a lot of it was quite dark and heavy and the ages of people that are normally interested in rock are between the ages of 15-40, on average. I picked out the teenage social group and found that not many rock magazines reflected this group that much.

With this, I decided to use a teenage rock chick for my feature image to reflect this target group. I have found, through images on google and Facebook, that a lot of teenagers tend to wear toned down rock fashions which I have used in my images of 'Kat Wild' with the leather jacket and make-up.

I think that this social group is a good place for my music magazine to fit in as it has a need in terms of less crude language in the articles, which I have made sure not to do much of in mine.

Focusing on this social group helped me to highlight and find my target audience.
